Titans is not fun. It's relentlessly adult so much so that it's alienating, and so slow in developing the plot and bringing the characters together that it's frustrating.

This ain't Teen Titans Go! This isn't even Teen Titans. These are some capital-S Serious teens out to prove that they matter. And after three of the first season's 12 episodes from the doofus trifecta behind the show I'm not convinced they do.

Titans is the absolute zenith of the post-Nolan, post-Dark Knight era of "mature" comic book storytelling, a show with both the grittiness and enjoyability factor of sandpaper.

Titans is so determined to stand out on the basis of its TV-MA depiction of superheroes that it quickly becomes almost absurdly self-serious and self-aware.
October 11, 2018
The production design looks cheap, the fight scenes perfunctory and forgettable, and Starfire is the only lead character in the initial episodes to make much of an impression at all.

Titans might as well arrive carrying a sign that says "Ask Me About My Edginess."

DC Universe's first original show is a well-constructed take on a beloved franchise.

Just wild and risky enough, with a surprisingly great cast, to be any fans next superhero TV obsession.

[Titans] is so entertaining that it's very easy to be immersed in the story. [Full review in Spanish]

Titans is a great start, and if you can get past the possibly 'trying a bit too hard to be edgy' opening shots, then it will reward your continued attention with dividends.

Titans is enjoyable and watchable, with Anna Diop's portrayal of Koriand'r a highlight. If only she was in charge.

There's surprising flavor beneath its classification as a dark, moody, teen drama.

[Titans] shows glimmers of promise, as long as the producers can brush away some of more irksome Snyder-esque affectations, and focus on the compelling mystery and the characters it entangles.

Titans is worth checking out because it's trying in earnest to be something you don't quite expect and, in a world that's being increasingly dominated by cookie cutter, live-action comic book adaptations, it stands out.

Titans quickly establishes itself as a unique, sometimes harrowing, and surprisingly engaging prospect. It's one that doesn't fall into the slow pacing and overwrought narratives of some "serious" comics adaptations.

Despite its flaws, 'Titans' is a true origin story makes it feel as if we are growing into the characters with them -- and that shows that this series has potential that shouldn't be ignored.

Titans reminded me of one of my favorite comics of all time, Gail Simone's Secret Six, which was a very funny and touching series about deeply broken people desperately clinging to whatever paper thin moral compass they have left.

While the darkness hovers, Titans seems to at least care about connecting each of the main characters.

If ever you needed proof that a book can't be judged by its cover, there's Titans over on DC Universe, which is actually quite good.

Not to give anything specific away, but the sometimes overly gritty Titans evolves into being witty and heartfelt, with the stragglers evolving into a family of sorts.
