If you want to just go have a good time with a lot of blood and guts, this is the movie for you.

Even with two-dimensional villains, a rote plot, and little in the way of invention, it's an original R-rated horror movie that tries something weird. That's got to count for something.

Here, the predictable does not stop being effective and the pulse of the story makes you experience it as the characters do. [Full Review in Spanish]

Here is an original genre film with an average budget that does not build bridges with anyone; better still: it destroys them. [Full review in Spanish]

Ultraviolent, perfectly pitched and with a commendable commitment to make this film as powerful as possible, Overlord is an exhilarating war story, told with panache.

It's reasonably good, creepy fun, provided you're not troubled by fleeting, uncomfortable thoughts like "Hey, that screaming bloodthirsty mutant monster could theoretically be a reanimated Anne Frank."

It wears thin near the end but it moves fast enough to where this was a lot of fun... I mean you throw in zombies, it makes everything better. It's a lot of fun.

The climax was cool but ultimately...I would've loved just to see the soldiers going to war with some zombie creations out of the lab.

Committed performances and delightfully gross practical effects make Overlord a fun night out at the movies.

There's a fun and pulpy sensibility on display here, and we're given a movie that takes itself seriously - but not too seriously. It's better than it has any right to be.

Something of a missed opportunity for all.

Unlike most other entries in this often low-budget subgenre, Overlord is not only comparatively well-funded, but it also works throughout as a pretty good WWII combat mission movie, albeit with some super-gory twists.

You might hope such a premise would license a wonderfully over-the-top movie, but...the splatter scenes in Julius Avery's film are pretty dull, seemingly designed to impress only young viewers who have never seen anything like them before.

Overlord is an impressive directorial statement from a confident filmmaker who can handle dynamic action sequences and ratchet up tension like an action and horror veteran.
November 12, 2018
Directed by Julius Avery, the movie's not a secret Cloverfield sequel, but it is a sci-fi horror movie dressed up in a WWII movie's clothes, and a startlingly fun ride.

The moral lessons, let's call them that, are of a clumsy fool that borders on the immoral. [Full Review in Spanish]

Only suitable for battle-hardened genre specialists and those with a strong stomach. Don't say you haven't been warned.

Yes, Overlord is outrageous, violent, gory, absurd, upsetting and all the rest of it. It probably shouldn't work quite as well as it does.

From band of brothers to chamber of horrors, this is an oddly effective night out.

Even though you won't find the events in this film in any history book, it is still well worth a view. Sometimes you just need to destress with some fictional monsters that distract you from the real monsters in our everyday lives.
